Newcastle (Desmond) Castle

From Walsh's History of the Irish Hierarchy:

Newcastle in the barony of Conillo.

The knights Templar erected a castle in this place and adjacent thereto a town sprung up which was walled and became a corporation. In process of time it fell to decay and is now in ruins.
